About us
Our Purpose and Commitment

The WNYDNBA Story: A Foundation Built on Inclusion
The Western New York Disability and Neurodiversity Bar Association was founded by a coalition of legal professionals, advocates, and community leaders who recognized a significant gap in specialized legal representation and awareness within the region. We saw firsthand how complex disability and neurodiversity issues intersect with law, often leaving individuals without the tailored, informed support they deserve. Our origin is rooted in the belief that systemic change requires a dedicated bar association committed to continuous education, advocacy, and the empowerment of our members to handle these nuanced cases effectively.

Who We Serve: A Diverse and Resilient Community
Our focus is on supporting individuals with disabilities and championing the neurodivergent community and the professionals who serve them.
We primarily serve two critical groups: the individuals and families within the disability and neurodivergent communities, and the legal professionals who advocate on their behalf. This includes providing resources and support for people with physical, cognitive, developmental, and mental health-related disabilities, as well as those identifying as neurodivergent. For our legal members, we provide a hub for specialized knowledge, networking, and mentorship, ensuring they have the tools to provide compassionate and legally sound representation in areas ranging from education law (IEPs), employment accommodations, public access, and estate planning.

Our Approach: Collaborative, Rights-Focused, and Empathetic
Advocacy driven by expertise, collaboration, and a deep commitment to human rights.
Our methodology is anchored in three core principles: Expertise, Collaboration, and Empathy. We prioritize continuous professional development to ensure our members are current on evolving statutes and case law. We emphasize collaboration, knowing that successful advocacy requires linking legal professionals with medical, educational, and advocacy experts. Most importantly, every action we take is guided by empathy and a dedication to viewing every case through the lens of human dignity and fundamental rights, working tirelessly to dismantle legal barriers and promote full inclusion.

Community Education and Public Outreach
Promoting wider understanding of rights and fostering community dialogue on inclusion.
Beyond supporting legal professionals, the WNYDNBA is deeply engaged in public outreach and community education. We conduct workshops for families, educators, employers, and local government agencies to demystify disability law and promote awareness of civil rights. By providing clear, accessible information on accommodations, non-discrimination policies, and available resources, we empower the community to proactively ensure compliance and create environments that are welcoming and fully accessible to everyone.
